Dr Safia Barikzai, Associate Professor in Engineering, will lead this session. After a short introduction to her career to date as an academic and her experiences of the growth in this field. This will be followed by a 40 minute exercise entitled ‘Fix me robots’.
Students will be split into groups of 3 and will each be handed a robot in a state of disrepair with an engineering toolkit to fix it. The students will be asked to programme the robots to complete a set of timed tasks against each other, with a winner at the end!
(Fix/Functionality/Finish Line). We will then finish with a small presentation on the careers associated with the robot (chemical/electronic engineering) and routes into education.
